On September 3 rd 2020, ESA has launched 42 small satellites aboard a Vega rocket from Kourou in French Guiana for the Copernicus Project. This new type of satellites capable of measuring CO 2 emissions to the nearest kilometer and pinpointing their origin. The European Space Agency (ESA) is organising an Advanced Training Course on Land Remote Sensing with the focus on Agriculture. This course is dedicated to training the next generation of Earth Observation (EO) scientists and experts from agriculture and food security related agencies to exploit data from EO missions (e.g. the Copernicus Sentinels) for science and applications development in the domain of agriculture.
Of most interest for forestry is data from Sentinel 2 which is a series of Landsat-like satellites.

The European Space Agency (ESA) has launched 42 tiny satellites aboard a Vega rocket. It took off from ESA’s launch site in French Guiana on 2 September local time. One of the launched nanosatellites, PICASSO, carries state-of-the-art remote sensing technology developed and built by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd.
Remote Sensing runs special issues to create collections of papers on specific topics. The aim is to build a community of authors and readers to discuss the latest research and develop new ideas and research directions. The European Remote Sensing satellite ERS-1, launched in 1991, carried a comprehensive payload including an imaging synthetic aperture radar, a radar altimeter and other powerful instruments to measure ocean surface temperature and winds at sea. ESA’s Education Office, with the support of the Science, Applications & Climate Department, is now inviting applications from Master and PhD students enrolled in engineering or science degrees for an exciting new workshop on Earth Observation Remote Sensing.
